Today we present to you Lily Smedshammer, Analy’s favorite (and only) East Wing Spanish teacher. We all know Ms. Smeds as a great teacher, but today we learn about her as a person.

Q/A:

1. How did you get started teaching?

I started out teaching US and World History in Santa Fe, NM when I was 21. My students were 17, so I felt more like their babysitter than their teacher.

2. What is your favorite food/beverage?

If I had to pick it would be Mountain Dew, but I love all drinks that are not kombucha.

3. If you hadn’t been a Spanish teacher, what would you be?

In 4th grade my life goal was to be a long haul truck driver.

4. If you had the authority to make it so, what time would school start?

10am, but it would still end at 2pm.

5. What is your favorite memory from high school?

Grad night was amazing. Make sure you buy your tickets!

6. If you could take a class at Analy what would it be?

AP Physics with Goldberg. I could use an easy A.

7. How do you manage your classes?

I guess there’s a look in my eye that does most of the work for me. I have my mother to thank for teaching me that.

8. What kind of music do you like/ hate?

I love: The Beastie Boys, 1970’s Outlaw Country, Bel Canto Opera, all Mexican music (with the exception of Maná) and Urban Tropical. I can’t tolerate: most jazz, modern classical, modern country, the cheesy pop music that Brandon Phan listens to.

9. What type of student were you?

I was a terrible speller, I routinely took cuts in line, I hated group work, I wore sweats to school and I never used the Oxford comma.

10. If you could give one piece of advice to 17-year-old you, what would it be?

Quit being such a jerk and get your hair out of your eyes.
