New to town but not new to the air, KOWS (Kingdom of Occidental and West Sonoma) 107.3 FM has moved in just next door to Analy. This community radio station relocated from their base in Occidental to the United Methodist Church right down the street from our campus in October of last year. What is a community radio station, you ask? It’s exactly what it sounds like: a radio station from the community. KOWS is an all-volunteer station with hosts ranging from 9-year-olds to 90-year-olds. It streams music just like any other station, but also broadcasts original recordings, live musicians, discussions, and public affairs. With dozens of different hosts every week, you never know what you’re in for when you tune in to 107.3. With any luck, you might turn on your radio in time to catch Celtic Contrasts, a two-hour block filled with the music of Scotland and Ireland, or The Mushroom Farm, a collection of psychedelic and rock music from the 1960s. The possibilities of KOWS 107.3 are endless; it’s your community on the air.
