Over a year ago, Creative Minds was established to give students the opportunity to work on art related projects outside of regular class time. They meet after school on Tuesdays in Art 1 (Ms S’s room). The president, Valentina Ortiz has done an excellent job on leading fun art activities such as bracelet making, shirt painting, collaborative portraits, and much more. She would describe Creative Minds as “a place to hangout, laugh, and make art.” The club has also helped paint and touch up props for our last dance show, Magic of Broadway. Alongside assisting the school’s dance program, Creative Minds has also created posters for other events too such as Showcase Night and Incoming Freshman Night.
They are currently trying to plan a mural that will be painted here on campus. This idea was brought up by club member, Zaira Pacheco. Her love for creating art inspired her to start this project. Additionally, Zaira has noticed that a few of the murals here on campus are a bit washed out and dated and it would not hurt to add something new for a change. The process for adding a mural onto campus can be a bit complicated so let’s walk through it together. First, at least three designs must be made to be presented for approval. Only one must be approved in order to start painting. Creative Minds has discussed and is working on three different mural design ideas through sketching and many rough drafts. One of their current drafts represents the different programs offered at school such as FFA, sports, and dance through each letter of the name “ANALY”. They have another sketch of a design that showcases only the arts programs through the word “CREATE” since they are quite passionate about art in general. The third and final design depicts the CTE pathways in honor of the new CTE building that is currently under construction. The club is still deciding where the mural will be located, possible measurements, and colors that will be used.
