Our Tigers have kicked off their season with a fabulous start, a team of 38 wrestlers with 23 new people and 15 returners. November 23rd set the date of our their tournament this season, a novice tournament held at Maria Carrillo designed to give freshman, sophomores, and any first time wrestlers a chance to get a feel for what upcoming tournaments throughout the season will look like, as well as feel out what a real wrestling match entails. For our 2024-2025 season, Patrick Utter takes over to coach the entire team with some help on the side from his son. After seeing outstanding performances, including 6 tournament champions and 12 wrestlers placing top 3 in their weight class, Coach Utter should be incredibly proud of what he’s taught in such a short amount of time.
“Very successful day of competition for the team.” Coach Utter said after the match.
Not only have our wrestlers been practicing 5 days a week, but they’ve also been working over Thanksgiving Break! On November 26th, Healdsburg High School was generous enough to open their gym up for a scrimmage inviting 6 other schools: Analy High School, Healdsburg High School, San Marin High School, Petaluma High School, Windsor High School, and SPSV Wrestling. This was a wonderful opportunity to get our wrestlers familiar with other faces that we might be seeing at upcoming tournaments, and it’s also important to be involved with a community that is safe and peaceful -we want ll wrestlers to feel like family – and this scrimmage was a perfect way to do so. This was a low stakes opportunity to fix up any mistakes, learn new things, practice with other people rather than just teammates, and make new friends! We are very grateful to Healdsburg High School, and all the people involved to make this scrimmage happen. Our Tigers will be competing hard throughout this season, let’s wish them luck!
