In our Analy book club, we read “I Kissed Shara Wheeler” by Casey McQuiston as our September book. It follows the story of Chloe Green, a high school student who’s determined to uncover the mystery behind Shara’s sudden disappearance. The book explores themes of identity, friendship, and the secrets we keep, all wrapped in a compelling, fun mystery. It’s a gorgeous story full of mystery and fun. Thoughts at our meeting included,
“I enjoyed their dynamics,”
“Fun, silly book”
“It wasn’t my favorite, but I enjoyed it.”
“It was a bit unrealistic.”
In October we started reading “The Weight of Blood” by Tiffany D. Jackson. The story is set in the fictional town of Springville, Georgia and follows “Maddy” Washington, a biracial teenager who has been passing as white to avoid the racism and bullying she faces. As her high school hosts its first integrated prom, Maddy’s secrets and the abuse she endures come to light, leading to catastrophic consequences.
