Have you ever seen #9 on our own turf during a football game and wondered, “who is this guy?” Well, you’re in luck because according to #9 himself, Tyler Sword, he is “a man of faith who just tries to do his best to seek leadership opportunities”. He has a passion for singing, writing, and producing his own music which is a profession he hopes to pursue one day. When Tyler’s not doing that, he plays outside linebacker and occasionally quarterback for our school’s varsity football team. He started playing football at the age of 5 because it was something that everyone in his family loved and he had to get his foot “in the door there”. Tyler loves football because of, as he describes it, the “sense of community that you get with football. It’s the most team sport you can get; it’s just a different ball game.” Sword is a leader; he rallies up the team and makes sure they’re all on the same page and focused on the same goal. According to Coach Bourdon, “He leads by example, but also can be vocal when needed.” Tyler explained that, “my faith drives me the most, it keeps me rooted and keeps me balanced the most in what I’m doing”. He takes that drive with him to all his games, but especially Montgomery because it’s a tough game against a team he doesn’t like which makes it all so much more fun. To get prepared for his games, Tyler hydrates, goes to bed early, and wakes up early the day of the game to listen to music like “Game Winner” and Al Pacino’s motivational speech in the movie, “Any Given Sunday”. In addition to that, Sword admits that he takes ibuprofen, eats protein bars, and bananas before his games. Take notes people! As the great Al Pacino says, “You got to look at the guy next to you… you’re gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team because he knows, when it comes down to it, you’re gonna do the same for them!
