The Marvel Universe: What’s Next?

Which film had 18 movies preceding it, was the biggest blockbuster of the year so far, and had an end that left us all shell-shocked or possibly in tears? That’s right, Avengers: Infinity War was Marvel’s most ambitious project yet, with 24 total heroes featured. The movie came out in April, so it’s not the most recent news. However, the new trailer for Captain Marvel was released just last month. After the horrifying ending to Avengers: Infinity War, we are all hoping for some good news from the Marvel universe. Massive speculation and guessing is coming from fans about how the new movie will tie into the sequence. From the trailer, we already know it will be set in the 90’s, long before the Avengers first assembled, so it’s safe to assume the events of Infinity War probably won’t have anything directly to do with it. However, there are a few important things to note about the new movie, which will be released on March 8, 2019.

Captain Marvel is apparently quite powerful, which could be helpful after everything. She also has weird memory and identity problems, and the trailer shows a bunch of flashbacks between her past and present self. This could be a hint at the ongoing theme of time travel, which could be a way for the remaining Avengers to reverse the events of Infinity War.

WARNING: Spoilers Ahead!!!

I read a bunch of theories about Avengers 4, and there was one that stuck with me. Did you notice how the original Avengers from the first movie are all still alive? The theory was that in the coming movie, all the old Avengers might die saving the new ones. Through this, the stage is “cleared” for a whole new generation of Avengers. So those like Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor will make way for the newer Spider Man, Black Panther, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Although this theory is sad, I think it could be an interesting way to continue the Marvel legacy. There has also been a lot of speculation on the role of the Soul Stone, one of the six infinity stones. Unlike the other five, the Soul Stone’s abilities aren’t entirely clear. Could it hold the power to bring half the universe back?

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
