Sebastopol FFA is Living To Serve

Missy Pendelton

The Sebastopol FFA has
many exciting activities coming
up, all aimed at making a positive
difference in the community
around us. The Sonoma Section
will be meeting up later this month
for a Night of Service at the Redwood
Empire Food Bank, and we
will be bagging meals for the less
fortunate in our community. In the
next two weeks, we will be bringing
our animals out to a Christmas
tree farm for a petting zoo, serving
at the Sonoma County Farm
Bureau Crab Feed, and helping to
educate children at the Farm Bureau
Ag Days. In February we will
be working with the Sebastopol
Ag Boosters at their annual dinnerdance
fundraiser to help raise funds
for the many activities in which we
take part. The Sebastopol FFA has
had a fun and exciting start to the
school year. In September, our
officer team spent an educational
weekend in Dixon and obtained
many leadership skills to bring
back to the Chapter. The first-year members
attended a one-day, fun-filled
Greenhand leadership conference.
They learned a lot about FFA and
were motivated to partake in all
the upcoming activities that will be
offered. Our beef group has begun
the year by obtaining their steers to
show at the Sonoma County Fair.
They have been working to tame
and halter-break the animals.

Last month we had three
teams compete at the Sectional
Opening & Closing contest held at
the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.
These members took time out of
their busy schedules to practice
and prepare for this contest. The
Advanced Team Gold members
were Austin Maners, Emma Harris,
Jaden Varville, Madison Collier,
Sophia Bianchi, and Trevor
Decker. Advanced Team Blue
members were Olivia Williams,
Shantel Shaw, Kassidy Watkins,
Lacee Aliff, Samantha Caughie,
and Parker Temkin. The officer
team members were Ariel Scholten,
Kaitlyn Hartsock, Emily Marcussen,
Shirley Melnikoff, Missy
Pendleton, and James Glaser. All
three teams proudly represented
Sebastopol FFA.
MFE/ALA applications are
due to Mrs. Mickelson by December
15th and can be picked up in
the Ag classroom if you’re interested
in attending.
