10 Reasons to Join Journalism Club

Journalism Club is the center of all Analy happenings. Its members are responsible for the craftsmanship of the Tiger Times, from writing quirky poems or covering current events to designing and arranging the final product. There are too many reasons to join journalism club, but here are ten.

  1. No obligations!

Writers for the Tiger Times don’t need to write articles every month and deadlines are always announced early in the month to give you plenty of time to write. Writing an article doesn’t have to be time-consuming and you can choose when you want to write an article. It’s like homework, only better.

  1. Make friends!

It doesn’t matter who you know—we’ll print your articles either way! You’ll be appreciated more by your contributions than the company you keep, but common goals guarantee new friends. We even take occasional field trips to conferences and local competitions.

  1. Write about your broccoli fetish!

The Tiger Times is always looking for fresh ideas, so any whimsical expertise is welcome. Whether you’re interested in genetically-modified broccoli, foreign policy, or fast food-themed limericks, our pages are open.

  1. Colleges will love you!

Getting involved in the school newspaper looks great on college applications and is a no-pressure way to practice writing skills.

  1. Join now and gain power!

You don’t have to sign up at the Club Fair to be a part of the Tiger Times. While signing up then will likely earn you free candy, you can show up to any meeting or email any time with an article idea or submission. Plus, many of our columnists and staff members will be graduating this year, so Journalism Club will be searching for promising students to take their places. If you get on their good side now, you could claim a meaningful position in the years to come. Someday, you could be the next Isabella Bloom, editor-in-chief.

  1. Be famous!

Write an article with your name printed importantly and bask in the rays of glory, or print an article anonymously and listen to your classmates debate about who could possibly have written it.

  1. Get buck for your bang!

Talk to your English teacher about your role in the newspaper. Many of them offer extra credit for participation in the newspaper.

  1. Skip SSR once a month!

Yes, join newspaper to miss twenty minutes of class just over half a dozen times a year. Grab a stack of newspapers on Distribution Day, help hand out newspapers, and watch students flip past the fruits of your labor and work on the Sudoku.

  1. Be a part of the student voice!

Do people ever tell you to just stop talking? Make them listen! There’s no better way to speak out about what you think people need to hear than having it printed and distributed not only around campus but across town.

  1. There’s something for everyone!

Journalism Club needs more than writers—we need layout designers, business managers, photographers, website managers, and artists. New ideas and fresh ways to incorporate a variety of subject material are always welcome.

If you’re interested in joining Journalism Club, drop by Ms. Ambrose’s room (109) at lunch on any Thursday or send an email to [email protected].
